The North Judson Town Council members received an update on the proposed sidewalk projects when they met this week.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said a fiduciary letter was presented to the town council by Mitch Hansel and Maggie Dickerson from USI Consultants for the application for a federal grant for the sidewalk project at the Hubeny subdivision and at the school. The town council members approved the letter and it was signed.
Rowe said the Hubeny Subdivision is in the area of the school which would create a safe pathway for residents and students. The school board has agreed to pay for part of the project that involves the school property.
Rowe previously said it is all about safety and ease of pedestrian traffic in those areas.
The preliminary estimate of the project is about $780,000. If the project were to get federal funding, the town’s match would be $136,000 and the school’s match would be $46,000.
Rowe added that the project is anticipated to be done in 2027, but it could be bumped up the schedule if the town was awarded funding and if it is available.
A legal description is still needed on a piece of property by the bus garage by the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation. A survey will be done to complete that part of the process.
