Starke County Commissioners Consider Contract with USI Consultants

Starke County Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert presented an on-call agreement with USI Consultants to the Starke County Commissioners for their consideration Monday night.

Dipert said the USI Consultants would help with Community Crossings Matching Grant project applications.

“With their help, which they’ve done this many times, we can be assured that we most miss any money and we can get as much as we possibly can,” stated Dipert.

Maggie Dickerson from USI Consultants explained that the commissioners would need to approve the on-call agreement and paperwork that would give the company authorization to proceed.

Dickerson commented, “We would help scope the project, and help with the application process. Once it was awarded, we would design the project, prepare the bid documents, and the notice to bidders for you guys, and then construction inspections.”

The authorization to proceed contract is for $50,000.  Auditor Rachel Oesterreich said the funding for the contract would likely come from the CEDIT Roadway line item, which is where grant matches typically are funded.

The commissioners approved the contracts with a unanimous vote.
