The Culver Community School Board members discussed the placement of the Youth Club within the Elementary and Middle and High School buildings.
Superintendent Karen Shuman explained that the Youth Club was moved to the Middle School last school year to make way for a quarantine room at the Culver Elementary School. Since that room is not being used as often as previously thought, Shuman thought that it was time to move the Youth Club back to the Elementary School.
“We want to somewhat increase the numbers at the Culver Youth Club so we’re going to move them back to the Elementary School and this may occur during spring break,” commented Shuman. “This would also free up that area potentially for the daycare to move into where the Culver Youth Club is at currently.”
She added that this would give the Youth Club a better chance to establish an identity. To assist in creating more of an identity for the Youth Club, Shuman said she has been working with SitelogIQ officials to design a façade, or addition, at the Elementary School to show that the Youth Club is at the school that assists anywhere from 38 to 45 average daily membership students during the week.
Shuman continued, “This would give them a potential small office area, restrooms, lobby – something in that space depending on how many square feet we want to go with the Culver Youth Club. It could be anywhere from 2,500 square feet to 10,000 square feet if they want to add classrooms and that kind of component.”
She did not think that classrooms were necessary at this point, but is was a discussion topic.
Shuman noted that the project could be thrown into the hat for consideration of READI grant dollars with a match, or a Regional Cities grant.
The topic will be brought back to the board in future meetings.
