Three public hearings are now set for community members of the City of Knox and Center Township to receive information about the potential formation of a Fire Protection Territory in Knox.
The Fire Protection Territory allows revenue to be generated through a property tax increase to sustain the Knox-Center Township Fire Department.
The maximum levy does not allow the city’s General Fund budget to increase to provide resources necessary to the Volunteer Fire Department.
Information about the proposed tax rate to raise funds for the territory and what the revenue will cover will be discussed during the public hearings.
The first public hearing is set for Wednesday, February 2, at 7 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox at 55 E. Lake Street. Other hearings are set for Tuesday, February 8, at 6 p.m. CT and Tuesday, March 8, at 6 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center.
Following the conclusion of the hearings, approval of the participation of a Fire Protection Territory will be considered by the Center Township Board members and the Knox City Council. Necessary paperwork would need to be sent to the Department of Local Government Finance for the establishment of the Fire Protection Territory.
