Pulaski County Commissioners Address Spread of COVID-19 Virus

The Pulaski County Commissioners addressed the increasing spread of the COVID-19 virus during their meeting last week.

Commission President Chuck Mellon stated that the commissioners are not implementing any restrictions, but encourage county offices to help reduce the spread within county buildings.

“The Pulaski County Commissioners expect each department to implement its own policies and practices of social distancing and use of masks with employees and patrons,” stated Mellon.  “Please do what works best within your department to prevent the spread of the virus.  Even though the commissioners do not want to implement a mandatory vaccination policy, we still strongly encourage all employees to be fully vaccinated.”

Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer said there is an ample supply of materials to assist the departments with the task.

Origer commented, “EMA [Emergency Management Agency] has a substantial supply of masks and wipes available for departments. The Health Department encourages county employees to take advantage of wearing masks when around others.”

Pulaski County is currently under the red status on the Indiana Department of Health’s County Metrics Map.  Since the beginning of the pandemic, the county has reported 2,753 cases of COVID-19 and 75 deaths due to COVID-19.
