The Starke County Council members took action this week to make a reduction of appropriated expenditures of the Cumulative Capital Development Fund.
The commissioners have approved several expenditures out of the appropriated $250,000 in that fund and Council President Dave Pearman commented that the council members are concerned about responsible spending. About $60,000 has been spent out of that fund through the first 18 days of the year.
Pearman commented that the purchase of vehicles and a trailer could have come from the DRMO instead of spending the money in that fund.
Pearman and Council Vice President Brad Hazelton commented that the two county government entities need to be on the same page and agreed that the joint sessions really helped with decisions concerning larger purchases.
In the end, the council approved a resolution that states “the Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the County’s citizens, and the health and fiscal vitality of the County…” and agreed to reduce the fund by $180,000 which leaves $70,000 in the fund.
