The Starke County Park Board members will be looking for a new park superintendent.
Marc Vendl recently submitted his resignation. He was hired as the superintendent in August of 2021.
Park Board member Kathy Norem asked the park board to consider asking the City of Knox and the city’s park board members to see if a joint management of the park superintendent could work. Karl Swihart, who serves as the Knox Director of Parks and Recreation and as a Starke County Park Board member, explained that he felt that it would be hard to juggle both the county and city park responsibilities and give them both a fair opportunity. However, Swihart stated he would serve as the superintendent for both until a new park superintendent can be found.
The board voted to re-advertise the position. Swihart abstained from the vote. Conversations will be had between the park board and the city to coordinate funding and efforts with Swihart.
Additionally, the Starke County Commissioners will be looking for another park board member as Chris Lawrence recently resigned from his seat from the park board.
