A Winamac man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Terry Cottrell, 38, was recently sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty, as announced by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
According to court documents, law enforcement discovered images and videos of child pornography on Cottrell’s cell phone and laptop computer in October 2019. He reportedly confessed to having the images. A press release from the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Indiana states that Cottrell’s criminal history includes a conviction of breaking into a library in 2003 to look up child pornography on a library computer.
As part of his sentence, Cottrell must pay $39,000 in restitution.
