The North Judson Town Council members reviewed the submitted Mint Festival special event permit request when they met Monday evening.
The Mint Festival is held during Father’s Day weekend which would be June 17-19 this year.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said discussion was tabled from the last meeting as questions were brought up about an earlier set-up time. The proposal was to close Lane Street earlier to allow more time to get ready for a full Friday night event in June.
“It was proposed that there’s a closure in the afternoon Thursday to allow any vendors to come in and set up and it would even allow sort of a Food Truck Friday kind of thing in order to attract people into our downtown,” said Rowe.
He said the adjusted set-up time was approved to be noon CT on Thursday, June 16 as well as the overall permit. The permit fee was waived.
Rowe said the North Judson Redevelopment Commission is hoping to host a fireworks celebration at the park the Saturday of the Mint Festival.
“Speaking with the operator of the fireworks, at a certain level of size of fireworks, it would be quite easy to see those from the Norwayne Field/downtown area from the park. It’s on a bit higher ground than where Norwayne is. We may address it next Monday if not the following Monday, but the Redevelopment Commission will be looking to host a fireworks during the mint Festival just as an added attraction and added bonus.”
A lot of the same features will be offered during the Mint Festival including food and craft vendors, music, the car show, water ball contest, Pedal Tractor Pull, the Sunday afternoon parade, the Ufkes run, cooking with mint contest, and much more. More details will be provided as the event gets closer.
