Community Services of Starke County 45th Anniversary Celebration Nearing

Community Services of Starke County will be turning 45 in April and the community is welcome to celebrate with the organization to honor this milestone.

Executive Director Cindy Benke told the Starke County Council members last week that the official anniversary date is April 11 and open houses will be held at both sites, with a bigger celebration on April 23.

According to information provided, Community Services of Starke County was incorporated on April 11, 1977, offering a wide range of services to the older population and the low-income population, with public transportation entering the mix in 1982.  The organization was called Starke County Council on Aging until 2005 when it was formally changed to Community Services of Starke County.

The community anniversary celebration is Saturday, April 23 at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center at 55 E. Lake Street in Knox.

Joan Haugh-Beatty will be honored during the anniversary celebration on April 23 as she spent several years as a worker and as the Executive Director of Community Services of Starke County.  She began in the role of executive director in June of 1980 and retired July 31, 2015.  She worked a total of 41 years with the organization.
