The Eastern Pulaski School Board looked at the corporation’s After School Activity Policy after one activity called for review.
Superintendent Dara Chezem said the current policy states that no extra-curricular activities happen after 5:30 p.m. due to family night, which hampers one event.
“We had a discussion that our Spanish Bowl team would like to compete at Harrison High School in Lafayette on Wednesday, April 13, and this is the only event the team competes in,” explained Chezem. “However, the way our current policy is written the academic team would not be able to compete. So, the board discussed expanding the wording to include not only IHSAA mandated tournaments and conference varsity level events, but also varsity level events that might need rescheduled at the end of the season due to inclement weather, as well as academic high school contests or events held at other schools in which no alternate date or contest is available.”
The board held the first reading on the policy change and will hold additional readings during their April meeting.
