Two entities will be voting on the possible formation of a Fire Protection Territory in separate meetings tonight.
The Knox-Center Township Fire Department and the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department are seeking more funds for their budgets for various equipment costs and operating costs and one way to do that is to increase property taxes through a Fire Protection Territory. Knox and Hamlet residents would see a 3 percent increase in property taxes, while Center Township residents would see a 7.3 percent increase and Davis Township residents would see a 6.2 percent increase.
The Knox-Center Township Fire Department would use a portion of funds to provide a salary for a full-time fire chief and three part-time firefighters. Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department would stay a volunteer department.
The Knox City Council and the Center Township Advisory Board members will meet separately to vote on the possible formation of the Fire Territory. The Knox City Council will vote tonight during their regular meeting at 6 p.m. CT at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center. The Center Township Advisory Board members will meet tomorrow night (Wednesday, March 23) at 6 p.m. CT at the same facility to vote.
The Hamlet Town Council and the Davis Township Advisory Board members will meet separately to vote on the possible formation of the Fire Territory there. Davis Township Advisory Board members will meet tonight at 6 p.m. CT at the Fire Department/Community Center in Hamlet to vote. The Hamlet Town Council will vote during their regular meeting tomorrow (Wednesday, March 23) at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Hamlet Town Hall.
Each voting entity has to have a favorable majority vote in order for it to pass.
