Knox Board of Works Members Receive Update on Super Value Inn

The Knox Board of Works members received an update on the clean-up process at the Super Value Inn on Danker Street.

Building and Code Compliance Director Kenny Pfost told the board that he inspected south side rooms and found no improvements as suggested.  He previously reported that the building has suffered from environmental and structural issues for several years and efforts have not been made to comply with orders to clean up the property.

Pfost explained earlier that one room has the bathroom door off of the hinges and the rooms are not being taken care of like a hotel should operate as normal room cleaning is not being done on a regular basis.

Pfost did note that the abandoned car has been removed from the parking lot and the compliance issues on the outer part of the office have been addressed.

In the end, the Knox Board of Works members took action to allow Pfost to work with the Starke County Health Department to condemn the Super Value Inn.  The owner will still have a chance to make necessary repairs, but if they are not done then further action will be taken.  Penalties will continue until the necessary work is done.
