Pulaski County Commissioners Continue Researching Parking Lot Project

The Pulaski County Commissioners are continuing discussions with contractors and Town of Winamac officials concerning a proposed parking lot project on the west side of the Pulaski County Justice Center.

Complaints have been made about parking around the Justice Center and the Courthouse for years.

Commissioner Maurice Loehmer facilitated the discussion during the commissioners meeting Monday morning.  He has been talking with Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers who said the county could talk with the contractor who will be working with the town on the Main Street project.  Loehmer would like to have the parking lot paved and striped to complete the Justice Center project.  He would also like to look at the parking on the east side of the Justice Center as well.

Lighting would also be a point of discussion.

A sign would be posted for county business only which would need to be approved in an ordinance.

Quotes for the project will be reviewed in a future meeting.

Loehmer also discussed the retaining wall on the west side of the Courthouse which is in disrepair.  If the wall was removed or able to be repaired and moved back six feet, the sidewalk could be moved with five new parking spots available along Main Street for angle parking.

Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer noted that he has been talking with INDOT on allowing parking on the U.S. 35 side of the Courthouse and communication is ongoing.  There is a no parking sign at that location.  INDOT officials will be looking into who authorized the sign to be placed there and if it could simply be taken down to open up five additional parallel parking spots on the east side of the courthouse.
