The Starke County Commissioners have chosen a company to complete repair and maintenance work on the county’s lead track in the Industrial Park.
Three quotes were obtained, with Tranco submitting the second lowest bid. The commissioners approved the company’s quote of $297,000. Tranco has worked with the county in the past and has excellent customer service.
Additionally, Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Lisa Dan asked the commissioners to review the billing of the companies for the use of the rail in the Industrial Park. A few years ago, it was decided that the companies would be charged $10 per car on the track to be billed quarterly, plus a final bill at the end of the year for what utility and maintence expenses are incurred. Dan asked if it could return to a simple user fee that would cover expenses. The commissioners agreed to look at the matter yet this year and negotiations will be held with the companies concerning that fee.
