The Winamac Town Council members opened a public hearing Monday night on a request for an additional appropriation.
The additional appropriation was for $161,972.25 so contractors from Milestone Contractors North can finish up last year’s Community Crossings Matching Grant project.
There were no public comments given during the hearing and the council later approved the additional appropriation request as presented.
Crews will finish work on Main Street down to the Winamac Town Park, according to Town Manager Brad Zellers. He previously explained that the road is not the safest for travel as there is a hill in that area and drivers have a difficult time with sight and it is narrow. As part of the project, about four feet of road will be taken off of the crest of the hill and it will be leveled off to increase safety and sight. When the project is complete, the road will have room for two cars to safely pass on the west side by the pickleball courts.
The town’s match will be $35,000 and the rest will be paid through the state’s Community Crossings Matching Grant program.
