The City of Knox is gearing up for a busy spring.
Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith told the Knox Board of Works members last week that 3,000 eggs were donated for the Police Department’s Easter Egg hunt Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. CT at Wythogan Park for children up to the age of 13.
Park Superintendent Karl Swihart noted that adult men and co-ed softball leagues are posted and teams are forming. The registration deadline is Friday, April 8.
Swihart added that trustees from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department were scheduled to help clear the park of leaves and branches from the winter. That work has been done.
Additionally, pickleball nets are now set up in the park, and the Mother/Son Super Hero Date Night is set for Friday, May 13 at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CT. Tickets are $25 and $10 per additional child.
Meanwhile, Street Superintendent Jeff Borg said mosquito larvicide was applied to areas around the city. A significant portion of it was administered this year compared to last year due to an increased amount of standing water. He said it is good for 180 days so it is an annual application. He also reminded residents that leaf pick-up is from April 4 to April 8 and from May 2 to May 6.
