Governor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Department of Natural Resources Director Dan Bortner announced grant awards as part of the third round of the Next Level Trails program.
Next Level Trails is the largest infusion of trails funding in state history. To date, $120 million has been awarded to build 190 miles of trails throughout Indiana. Ninety-four percent of Hoosiers live within five miles of a trail.
The Friends of the Panhandle Pathway received over $2.5 million in Next Level Trail Grant funds for the Panhandle Pathway – Park to Park project in Cass County and in Pulaski County. This funding will extend the Panhandle Pathway on both ends. The 0.83-mile southern extension will connect the current trail to France Park in Cass County. The 1.5-mile northern extension will connect the trail to the northern part of the Town of Winamac.
According to information provided, once this portion is completed, the extensions will bring the Panhandle Pathway to a length of 24.30 miles.
