The Community Crossings Matching Grant project in Winamac is expected to start soon.
Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers told the Winamac Town Council members Monday night that the project should start mid-week next week.
Milestone Contractors North crews will finish work on Main Street down to the Winamac Town Park. Zellers previously explained that the road is not the safest for travel as there is a hill in that area and drivers have a difficult time with sight and it is narrow. As part of the project, about four feet of road will be taken off of the crest of the hill and it will be leveled off to increase safety and sight. When the project is complete, the road will have room for two cars to safely pass on the west side by the pickleball courts.
An additional appropriation of $161,972.25 was recently approved by the council members so the contractors can finish up the project. This was the amount the state provided the town for this project. The town’s match will be $35,000.
