Pulaski County Council Vice President Shares Statement Concerning Recent Allegations against Council Member

The joint session of the Pulaski County Commissioners and Pulaski County Council addressed the recent allegations and felony charges filed against Councilman Brian Young who was seated in his council seat during the meeting Monday night.

Young was placed into the custody of the Pulaski County Justice Center Tuesday, April 5 after a warrant was served for his arrest on Level 6 Felony charges of voting outside precinct residence, theft, perjury, and official misconduct.  He was later released on his own recognizance.

At the beginning of the meeting, Council Vice President Adam Loehmer read aloud from a public statement on the matter in the absence of Council President Ken Boswell.  The statement acknowledged the fact that Young was charged with several counts and that the “criminal process will play out despite any action or inaction on the part of the board”.

The statement indicated that Pulaski County Attorney Kevin Tankersley and Young’s attorney, Anthony Churchward, have met to communicate the concerns of the council and Young’s intentions going forward, as read by Loehmer.

Loehmer stated, “Mr. Churchward advised that Mr. Young’s position is that he was properly elected as a representative of his district and therefore he will continue to serve on the council in that capacity.  This leaves the council with a decision to make.  There are several avenues the board may choose to take under Indiana law that could result in the removal of Mr. Young from the board.  If the board chooses to pursue one of these avenues, it would be independent of the criminal proceedings and have no bearing on them whatsoever.  We are not prepared to have a discussion or decide on those legal options tonight.  The situation will continue to be examined by legal counsel, and options will be presented to the board as adequate time allows.”

Suspects are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
