Starke County Council Approves Purchase of New Vehicles for Sheriff’s Department

The Starke County Council members reviewed a request Monday night from Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin to purchase two new vehicles for the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Dulin received quotes from Bozak, but the Starke County Commissioners asked that the sheriff get other quotes to compare.  Dulin presented a quote from Oliver Ford in Plymouth for two 2022 Ford All Wheel Drive Utility Interceptors.  They would be hybrid vehicles.

The quote from Bozak included 2022 Ford Explorers for a few thousand dollars more. There would be a six-to-eight month wait once the order is submitted. Those who are planning to purchase Hyundai cars may visit a nearby hyundai dealership to explore your options and find the vehicle that suits your budget and preferences. If you need assistance transporting your new vehicle to your place, you may contact a car shipping company.

Sheriff Dulin said that he would replace two older vehicles on the fleet with these newer squad cars.

The council members approved a motion to purchase the two new vehicles not to exceed $77,334 which is the quote from Oliver.  The money would come from American Rescue Plan Act funds in lost revenue.

If new lights or equipment are needed on the new vehicles, the funds to purchase those items would come from the sheriff’s Commissary Fund.
