Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin asked the commissioners for permission Monday night to purchase two new vehicles for the Sheriff’s Department.
Dulin presented a quote from Bozak for 2022 Ford Explorers that are pursuit rated. He wants to stay with Ford in order to keep the model consistent with the current fleet to save on maintenance costs as many parts are interchangeable. He said the Dodge models that are listed as police interceptors are not available until 2023.
The commissioners asked Dulin to get more quotes and include a Chevy Tahoe in the packet to present to the council at their next meeting. The commissioners did agree to set a limit of $82,000 to purchase two new vehicles.
When the vehicles are purchased, the light package and other equipment from the retiring vehicles will be transferred to the new vehicles to save on cost.
