West Central School Board Discusses Increases for Non-Certified Salaries, Teacher Retirement Fund

The West Central School Board members took time to discuss increases to Non-Certified staff member salaries during their meeting Monday night, according to Superintendent Dan Zylstra.

“The teachers are on a two-year contract so they have a raise built in next fall,” explained Zylstra.  “We want to make sure our other support staff continues to receive wage increases in line with some of the rising costs that are happening right now.”

Zylstra is expected to work with the Non-Certified staff committee and present a recommendation to the school board at the May meeting.

The board also discussed an increase to the Teacher Retirement Fund.

Zylstra continued, “We also discussed a mandatory increase in our TRF, and that’s our Teacher Retirement Fund.  It’s going to go from 5.5 percent to 6 percent starting on July 1.”

In addition, Zylstra proposed the potential creation of a Non-Certified position which would assist with state reporting, software management, and software training and development.  More details on that will be brought before the board in an upcoming meeting.
