Hamlet Town Officials to Look into Park Board, Zoning Board Membership

The Hamlet Town Council members, who also act as the Park Board and Zoning Board members, will be looking into the makeup up the board memberships in future meetings.

The issue came up as the there were only two council members present during last week’s meeting and were contemplating if a quorum was present to hold the meeting.  Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts was deemed eligible as a member if there were not enough members in attendance.

Technically, up to seven members can serve on each board, but there has not been full membership for quite some time.  Currently, there are four members on each board.  The board has not changed ordinances to reflect any different action.

Councilman Brian Earnest said the council members serve to have members on each board, but he would like to see members of the community on these boards to give more input and ideas for park projects or for zoning requests or issues.

Pitts said she will look into the town’s ordinances to see what is written to be sure of the membership on both boards.  Until then, the council is looking for a few members on each board to serve.  If any community member is interested, call the Hamlet Town Hall at 574-867-3541.
