The town of Hamlet will be busy this weekend with town-wide yard sales continuing today (Friday, May 20) and Saturday.
Meanwhile, Hamlet Town Council members are urging residents to keep up with cutting grass and other vegetation in yards. Town Marshal Clint Norem will be handing out a notice or citation to residents that are not in compliance with the town’s ordinance regarding the removal of weeds and rank vegetation within the town limits.
The ordinance states that a violation occurs when weeds and rank vegetation including any excessive growth of vegetation, course growth of any vegetation, woody vegetation, grass, or weeds grow greater than six inches in height.
If a notice is issued, the landowner has to remove the weeds, or rank vegetation within five days of the posting or personal delivery of the notice. If there is failure to comply, the town’s employees or a contractor will mow at a minimum cost of $150.
Violations of the ordinance are subject to a $25 fine, with each recurring violation not to exceed $200 per violation.
