Knox City Council Approves Amendment to Water Rate Ordinance

The Knox City Council members last week reviewed an amendment to the water rate ordinance following the General Assembly’s repeal of the Utility Receipts Tax, effective July 1, 2022.

The repeal of the Utility Receipts Tax will result in a slight decrease in water rates and charges previously established by the city council.

The average decrease will be about $.30 per average minimum use customer and will be reflected in the August billing cycle.

The Knox City Council approved the ordinance as presented.

Additionally, the council also approved an ordinance that replaces the zoning ordinance that pertains to nonconforming building, uses, and lots in its entirety.

The purpose was adjusted to reflect that the ordinance is intended to “protect the character of residential neighborhoods and commercial corridors, as well as to ensure that structures are placed and constructed in such a way that is harmonious and beneficial to all Residential and Commercial properties.”
