The Starke County Election Board members reviewed eight Republican provisional mail-in ballots Friday morning in a public meeting which changed the outcome of the Starke County Commissioner District 2 race on the Republican ticket in the May Primary Election.
Signature verification was conducted on a few of the provisional ballots while dates were reviewed on other ballots. The board determined the ballots to be in good order and agreed that they would be counted.
On Election Day, Republican Incumbent Bryan Cavender had five votes more than Republican challenger Don Binkley in the Starke County Commissioner District 2 race, but after the provisional ballots were counted Friday, Don Binkley was found to have 933 votes and Incumbent Bryan Cavender had 932 votes.Â
A recount will still be allowed, if filed in court, even though the Starke County May Primary Election was certified Friday afternoon.
No other races were affected by the additional ballots.
