Officers and dispatchers from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and the Corrections Division were honored with awards in a ceremony held at the Pulaski County Justice Center Wednesday morning.
“Most of the things we’re here about today involve responding to a situation in which someone’s life was seriously impacted as a result of someone simply doing their job. In most of these situations, the citizen of this county would not be with us today if it wasn’t for the actions of these men and women,” stated Deputy Seth Barton, who read each commendation aloud to each recipient and to all gathered for the ceremony.
K9 Deputy Cody Foust was recognized for 10 years of service, along with Dispatcher Laura McIntosh, Assistant Jail Commander Danny Winters, and Sergeant Fred Rogers.
A Sheriff’s Commendation Award went to Deputy Aaron Himes for pulling Deputy Foust out of harm’s way when an out-of-control vehicle was approaching them during a traffic stop. Correctional Officer Steven Sewell received a Sheriff’s Commendation Award for stopping the possible escape of a female inmate. Dispatchers Laura McIntosh and Deputy Matthew Pickens also received a Sheriff’s Commendation Award as they were instrumental in stopping a vehicle of armed robbery suspects out of Starke County by being aware of information happening in the surrounding community. A Sheriff’s Commendation Award was also given to Correctional Officer Kaden Craig who maintained control of an out-of-control inmate.
Deputy Matthew Scott, Dispatcher Shelby Pickens and Dispatcher Austin Townsend were given a Distinguished Service award for rescuing a 71-year-old man in an extreme winter conditions.
Life Saving Awards were given to Deputy Aaron Zimmerman, Deputy Matthew Scott, Deputy Cody Foust, Deputy Matthew Pickens, Deputy Alec Berger, and Sergeant Fred Rogers who saved residents who were victims of an opioid overdose.
A Meritorious Conduct Award went to Sergeant Fred Rogers.
All of the award winners were treated to food and cake following the ceremony.
