A traffic study will be conducted in the area of West Pearl and Main Streets in Hamlet to determine if a four-way stop is needed at that intersection.
A resident asked the Hamlet Town Council members last week to put up two additional stop signs at that intersection which currently features a two-way stop. She said autistic children play in that area, and a blind man lives in the area where vehicles often times reportedly travel at a high rate of speed. She feels it would be safer if it was a four-way stop.
She also presented signatures from neighbors who support the four-way stop.
The council members agreed to start to look into the process. The Hamlet Police Department was asked to patrol the area more frequently.
In the meantime, signs that warn drivers of children at play and others will be purchased and could be posted where needed.
Additionally, the traffic study may include speed limits in town which may be included in an updated traffic ordinance.
