The Hamlet Town Council reviewed an amended water rate ordinance during their last regular meeting.
Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts said the ordinance reflects recent changes on the state level.
“We’ll have to pay this year through June, and it’ll go into effect July 1,” said Pitts. “Our rate ordinance needs to state that the General Assembly in the State of Indiana repealed the Utility Receipt Tax.”
Pitts clarified that the current rate is $5.97 and it will go down to $5.89 in bills due August 10.
The Hamlet Town Council members agreed to suspend the rules and approve the ordinance on all three readings, thus adopting the amendment.
