The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department investigated a fatal accident in the 3,000 block of State Road 39 in rural Scipio Township Wednesday morning just before 10 a.m. CT where a Michigan City woman lost her life.
Police say 32-year-old Ricquelle M. Wren of Michigan City was northbound on State Road 39 when her passenger vehicle left the northbound lane for an unknown reason, drove left of center and into the southbound lane into the path of a dump truck driven by 68-year-old Mark Chizum of Mishawaka. The vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane, according to the report.
Wren was pronounced dead at the scene, while Chizum sustained an upper body injury and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Coroner’s Office, La Porte County Haz-mat, Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana Department of Transportation, and John’s Garage.
