The North Judson Town Council approved a trash and recycling bid Friday morning.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe said the lowest bid came from Republic Services, but since there have been issues experienced with the service, Rowe said the council decided to approve the next lowest responsible bidder as they feel the change would be in the best interest for the residents of North Judson.
With that, the council approved the bid with Waste Management. The five-year contract begins July 1, 2022 which will come with an increase in trash and recycling services. The current rate is $10.21 for recycling and $3.17 for trash. Starting with the August utility billing, the new rate will be $12.40 for recycling and $4.20 for trash.
Rowe said there should be no interruptions as far as the day the trash and recycling are collected. Trash collection should continue each Thursday with recycling every other week. A new schedule will be sent to residents.
The North Judson Town Council will meet in regular session tonight where they will continue with discussions concerning the employee handbook and the town code update. Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Lisa Dan will provide a monthly update, and the department heads will have regular reports.
The North Judson Town Council will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT at the North Judson Town Hall at 310 Lane Street.
