North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library’s Centennial Celebration is June 2

The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library is holding its Centennial Open House Thursday, June 2 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT at the facility at 208 Keller Avenue in North Judson.

North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library Director Kelsie Purcell previously told WKVI News that the library opened as a building in October 1921, but it did not open as a functioning library until February 1922.  The first dedication was held in June 1922.

Tours will be given of the library and four local authors will be available for book signing. In attendance will be Ron Richie, Philip Potempa, Gilbert Arzola and Dean Wickert.

Library Board President Venita Cunningham told Morning Show Host Charlie Adams in a recent interview that they will be discussing the history of the Carnegie building and what was happening in the town of North Judson in the early 1920s.  Residents are welcome to come in and share stories.

Library Director Kelsie Purcell noted earlier that some improvements have been made to the facility in time for the upcoming celebration.  New paint is on the walls upstairs along with new carpet.  Fresh paint has been applied to walls in the basement along with a mural. New windows were installed a short time ago. The children’s room has also undergone updates. Purcell said a maker space is planned in the basement and other improvements.
