The Pulaski County Council members approved the advertisement of an additional appropriation Monday night that would provide funds to fix the roof at the Pulaski County Highway Department building.
The appropriation would be in the amount of $200,000.
The roof has been leaking for quite some time in several areas, with water causing damage to tiles and dripping into where government leaders currently hold their meetings.
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer told the council members that the commissioners approved a contract with Rowland Design to put specs together to replace the roof. Origer said bids will need to be solicited from roofing consultants, but that may turn into a formal bidding process if there is more structural damage found with the trusses which would raise the estimate into that bidding threshold. However, Origer said after an initial look at the roof by Construction Manager John Allen, Allen said he did not see anything on the ceiling or roof that would indicate any structural issues.
“We think it will be just tearing down possibly to the metal base, possibly to the trusses, and redoing what’s up there,” said Origer. “The architects should be able to see if there needs to be any changes to the elevation, what the best material for this building will be and then we will put it out to bid.”
The $200,000 cost will come out of the Pulaski County Highway Department’s funds.
