Starke County Commissioners Approve SCILL Center Funding Request

The Starke County Commissioners met new SCILL Center Executive Director Jim Hernandez Monday night.  Hernandez was hired into the position in April.

Hernandez presented a funding request to the commissioners for the purchase of two promethean boards to be installed in the Auto Tech I and Auto Tech II classrooms.  The technology on the current white boards is outdated and parts can no longer be found to make any repairs.  Hernandez told WKVI News that the current promethean boards are at least 12 years old. They serve as visual aids where material can be projected on the interactive screen for the students.

Additionally, repairs need to be made to two air conditioning units at the SCILL Center.

The entire cost of the request was $20,610.47 which was unanimously approved by the commissioners.

Hernandez added that he is applying for a grant through the Department of Homeland Security to increase security measures at the Auto Tech building.   He mentioned that the CTE Co-op was able to assist the SCILL Center in purchasing new textbooks which resulted in a $6,687 savings.
