Construction on the Culver Park project will begin soon.
Culver Park Superintendent Amber Cowell mentioned mentioned to the Culver Town Council members Tuesday night that the Office of Community and Rural Affairs has released the grant funding for this Regional Stellar project. A preconstruction meeting will be held with Thomas Excavating on August 3. Cowell hopes the groundbreaking ceremony will be held later in August.
The Farmer’s Market will move during the construction and Cowell has been in contact with those officials to coordinate the change.
The improvement area is near the Culver Lion’s Club in the Culver Town Park. There will be parking lot improvements, a plaza with added seating and improved accessibility with sidewalks, added lawn space, Farmer’s Market space, playground redevelopment, the installation of a swinging covered bench, a performance stage, and cornhole boards.
The contract went to Thomas Excavating for $531,000 which is $45,000 over the budgeted amount for the project. However, the Culver Redevelopment Commission pledged additional funding to make sure the funding is available to complete the work.
The project is expected to begin after beach season and could wrap up in 2023 with anticipated delays in the arrival of material.
