Culver Community School Corporation Ready for Start School

Officials at the Culver Community School Corporation are ready to welcome students and staff back to school.

Superintendent Karen Shuman told the Culver Community School Board Monday night that the maintenance staff members have been busy getting the buildings prepared for a new year of instruction. Such buildings may even contain supplies like a stellwand.

Shuman stated, “A lot of the classrooms have been painted and have new flooring or new carpeting.  Some of them have new wood floors. You haven’t seen them yet, but the sprinklers are up and working on the soccer and football fields. Luckily, we did not have to dig a new well. As of today, we have four vape detectors at our Elementary School restrooms and we have 12 at the High School and Middle School. These are the ones that let off a little alarm if there is any detection of vaping.”

She added that the wall for the new HVAC equipment at the High School has been removed and the replacement HVAC unit is expected to be delivered today (Wednesday, August 3) and it will be installed by Friday and working by Monday, August 8. The wall will be rebuilt some time next week.

The HVAC unit for the High School Office will be replaced over the Labor Day weekend and HVAC units at the Elementary School will be replaced during fall break.

Shuman added that one position is open at the Elementary School while all positions are filled for the upcoming school year at the Middle School and High School.  For now, it appears enrollment is up from last year, but the official count day will not be until mid-September.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 10.
