The Hamlet Town Council intends to apply for a Community Crossings Matching Grant.
If awarded, the grant funds would go toward the installation of a new sidewalk. The current sidewalk on South Starke Street from Pearl Street to Indiana Street is in need of repair.
Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told WKVI News the new sidewalk would be put in on the east side of Starke Street. She announced in the town council meeting last week a bid from Milestone Inc. of $70,354 was quoted to have the project complete.
Pitts said they will not know for some time if they have been awarded the grant but will have more paperwork at their next meeting on August 24.
