The Knox Board of Public Works gave an update on the 18 South Main Street Fire during their meeting Wednesday morning.
In a previous meeting, the Director of Building, Planning and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost said the building was a total loss. At that time, Pfost said he sent out a code enforcement with letters in order to demolish the building due to it being a hazard.
In that same meeting, Pfost added they had learned there was a discrepancy with insurance and that no insurance company had claimed the building in the fire. This is what held up the fire investigation from occurring sooner.
The board modified Pfost’s order from July 22 to include that the occupant sign a consent form to allow access to the building to continue the fire investigation and have a structural engineer go in and determine how extensive the damage is.
The board announced Pfost has since been in contact with an attorney from RWN Enterprises. From those conversations, Pfost recommended the board move forward with the appointment of its own structural engineer to evaluate the property.
A motion was made and seconded to hire a structural engineer and have the property evaluated. The motion passed unanimously.
