Indiana Criminal Justice Institute Awards Grants to Support Crime Victims

More than 190 public and non-profit entities in Indiana were awarded federal grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and the Victims of Crime Act program. 

Victims of Crime Act funding is provided by the Office for Victims of Crime under the U.S. Department of Justice and comes from fines and restitution paid by convicted federal offenders.  Funds are designed to help survivors stabilize their lives after a victimization. 

Grants fund a variety of initiatives in Indiana including mental health counseling, transitional housing, crisis intervention, legal aid, child and youth services, victim advocate support, sexual assault nurse examiners and other victim-focused positions. 

In La Porte County, Dunebrook, Inc. received $293,259, Family Advocates, Inc. received $114,751, LaPorte County Prosecuting Attorney received $322,622, and the Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, Inc. received $381,754.

The Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office received $118,446.  The Starke Coalition Against Domestic Abuse, Inc. received $75,295 and the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office received $84,901.
