Knox City Council Gives Main Street Fire Update

The Knox City Council heard an update on the Main Street fire from this past June.

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told the council at that time they were two-to-three weeks out from being able to start the clean-up process. He added someone from the community has offered the use of their personally-owned excavator to use for the clean-up.

Estok stated what may occur is the city will have to have all the work done to clean up the unsafe hazardous area. Once the clean-up is finished, the city would look toward taking the issue to court in order to get the city’s out-of-pocket expense reimbursed.

It was mentioned that Birdie’s Main Street Diner, which is next door to where the fire was, is still in tact and safe to open. The restaurant is scheduled to open this Saturday at 6 a.m. CT.
