The Knox Board of Works heard an update on the 18 South Main Street fire that happened this past June.
Director of Building, Planning and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost informed the board the building has been demolished and all cleaned up. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok stated the owner of 18 South Main Street in Knox has ignored all orders sent by Director Pfost leading up to the clean up. Mayor Estok said this has cost the City of Knox over $14,000 for the clean up efforts.
The Mayor entertained a motion to impose a civil penalty in the amount of $5,000 to the owner of 18 South Main Street in Knox. A motion was made and seconded as the motion passed unanimously by vote.
Director Pfost then stated the owner will have 15 days before the 30 day period to pay will begin. He said the owner has those 30 days to pay the civil penalty before it escalates further. Mayor Estok said if the owner were to not pay the penalty, a special assessment may be needed going forward.
