Knox City Police Respond to Report of Shots Fired

The Knox City Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Culver Road and Pearl Street around 2 a.m. CT Monday, January 16. 

Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith says there were multiple calls regarding the alleged incident and responding officers also heard sounds of gunfire. 

The suspect, Larry Weyer, 70, was allegedly standing outside his residence in the 800 block of Pearl Street while intoxicated and had been firing weapons from the doorway of his garage into the air, according to the report. 

Weyer was arrested and transported to the Starke County Justice Center on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness.  The report will be reviewed by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office. 

The Knox City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Starke County Sheriff’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
