Starke County Republican Caucus Finds New Starke County Council Member

A Starke County Republican Caucus was held Saturday morning to fill the unexpired term of a Starke County Council At-Large seat.

The vacancy was produced following Don Binkley’s resignation from the seat as he was elected as a Starke County Commissioner in the 2022 November General Election.

Candidates Anthony “Tony” Black and Bryan Cavender filed the proper paperwork to be considered by the eligible Precinct Committeemen to fill the seat.  Both candidates were given three minutes to speak prior to the vote of the Precinct Committeemen.

Sixteen eligible Precinct Committeemen were at the James R. Hardesty Community Building in Hamlet to vote.  In the end, Anthony “Tony” Black received 10 votes and Bryan Cavender received six votes.  Since the votes were more than 50 percent plus one, Black was declared the winner.

The ballots were destroyed and the Caucus was adjourned.

Black will attend his first council meeting tonight in the Starke County Annex No. 1 building at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
