A Winamac man was arrested Wednesday, January 25 after reportedly leading Winamac police and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department deputies on a pursuit.
Police say an officer with the Winamac Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black SUV, but the vehicle fled and the officer engaged in a pursuit with the driver. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department assisted the officer.
Officers reportedly lost sight of the vehicle due to inclement weather.
A short time later, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call about a black SUV involved in a hit and run accident at the Broken Arrow Campground entrance, according to the report. Police say the vehicle matched the description of the vehicle reportedly involved in the pursuit. Sheriff’s Department deputies responded and located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle. A track of the suspect was initiated and he was located and arrested without further incident.
The suspect was identified as James Nine. Police say he had active felony arrest warrants out of Pulaski County. Nine is being detained in the Pulaski County Justice Center.
The Winamac Police Department and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department were assisted by the Pulaski County K9 Unit and the North Judson Police Department.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
