Knox City Police Arrest Person Located in Abandoned Residence

A Knox man was arrested in the overnight hours Wednesday, February 15 after officers found him inside an abandoned residence.

Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith says officers with the Knox City Police Department and the Starke County Sheriff’s Department were checking an abandoned residence in the 100 S. block of Main Street where a person was known to frequent.

Officers entered the residence with a Knox K9 and performed a check, giving out formal commands to make anyone inside the residence known to police.  With the assistance of the K9, officers were directed to a closed closet door on the second floor. Inside the closet, officers found 48-year-old Eric Sobieck holding a knife, according to the report.

Police say Sobieck was taken into custody without incident and later transported to the Starke County Jail on an active warrant and criminal trespass.  Officers also reportedly found property belonging to Sobieck along with packaging material that contained suspected methamphetamine.

Formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
