The Knox Community School Board heard from high school Band Director Craige Phipps during their meeting earlier this month.
Phipps explained to the school board he would like to take students who are interested on a trip to Hawaii in the spring of 2024. He mentioned it would be a similar trip that Knox band students went on back in 2005.
Parents and students where given a survey to decide where the band would go. Phipps said the survey gave students and their families the choice of taking a trip to Hawaii or Florida. The results came back 60 percent in favor of taking the trip to Hawaii.
It was said students would travel with their instruments giving them an opportunity to play at Pearl Harbor. Phipps stated they would also tour Pear Harbor and learn the World War II history that went on there. Students would also experience the culture and tour the island while on the trip as well.
Phipps stated he would like 50 people including chaperones to go. He stated ideally they would like one chaperone to five students. Payment plans are an option as March 10 is the deadline for the first installment.
After discussion the board made a motion to approve the trip. That motion was seconded and voted on passing unanimously. Those who are interested are encouraged to visit here.
