Several area fire departments were called to the scene of a residential fire Wednesday morning in the area of U.S. 421 north of 2300 South in La Porte County.
According to Lacrosse Volunteer Fire Department officials, firefighters were called to the scene just after 7 a.m. CT where fire and heavy smoke was seen pushing out of the south side of the structure. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one wing of the home, but smoke damage was prevalent throughout the structure.
Prior to the arrival of firefighters, officers from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office found a resident at the door of the structure who was reportedly suffering from smoke inhalation, according to the fire department’s Facebook post. It states the person was transported by La Porte County EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
The Lacrosse Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by the Cass Clinton, Kouts, Westville, San Pierre, North Judson-Wayne Township, and Knox-Center Township Fire Departments. The Indiana State Fire Marshal was also at the scene.
The Facebook post indicated appreciation to the Porter County Emergency Management Agency for help with beverages and a rehab/warming trailer due to single-digit temperatures.
