The members of the Prairie Trails Club, Inc. will host a public input session Monday, February 20 at 5:30 p.m. CT concerning a project to extend the Erie Trail.
The Prairie Trails Club, Inc. is looking to put together the elements needed for an Indiana Trails Program grant request to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources which would provide funds for 80 percent of the project to be funded by the State, if the grant request is approved. Public input is necessary in the grant application process.
The extension would continue northwest from its current trailhead on Main Street through the Town of North Judson to near the junction of English Lake Road at County Road 500 S. and County Road 450 W. The meeting will last for approximately one hour at the North Judson Town Hall.
The Erie Trail is a multi-use route on the rail-banked former Erie Railroad, extending 11 miles between North Judson and County Road 700 E. The Great American Rail-Trail, the American Discovery Trail and U.S. bike route 35 all use the Erie Trail as a portion of their TransAmerican routes. Prairie Trails Club, Inc. hopes to extend the trail both ways.
During the public input session, the public may ask questions and offer comments with respect to the proposed trail extension and terms of the Indiana DNR grant application. The comment period will remain open until February 21, 2023. Comments may also be submitted by email at skadad2008@gmail.com, or by mail at Prairie Trails Club Inc., P.O. Box 72, North Judson, IN, 46366
