Starke County Park Board Clarifies Pier Letter

Concerns were raised by local citizens of Bass Lake over a letter that was sent out from the Starke County Park Board.

Last year the Indiana Department of Natural Resources forced the removal of several boat piers due to improper permits. Permits have been submitted correctly this year, but certified letters of notification would need to be mailed out to property owners adjacent to where any piers would go, allowing time for any questions or comments.

Letters were received but it seems there is misunderstanding from some property owners. Some residents thought that the letter was notifying them of 40 extra piers to be installed as well as the pre-existing piers.

Starke County Park Board members were given the opportunity to clarify a little further during their meeting last week.

When the Marina shut down, the board purchased all the Marina’s piers at a discounted rate in order to replace any old or run-down piers. So there would be no extra piers added, just replaced. It was also noted that most of the renters of the piers would be individuals who were previous renters at the Marina.
